BACKGROUND:
Cold Spring's roots began in 1857 when German immigrant Gottlieb Gluek
brought traditional brewing to Minnesota -- before Minnesota was
even a state. Cold Spring's first brewery was in Northeast Minneapolis
on 22nd Avenue and Marshall Street.
The Minneapolis brewery burned down in 1880, was rebuilt, and Gluek's
family continued his tradition when he died shortly thereafter.
During the 1920's, Prohibition led Cold Spring to produce "near beer,"”
soda and bottled water. By 1966, G. Heileman Brewing Co. of LaCrosse,
Wisc., bought Cold Spring, and the Minneapolis brewery was torn down.
In 1997, the Cold Spring Brewery was changed to Gluek Brewing Company
and Gluek beer was reborn.
